Default Your suggestion on exhaust...

Okay, which one? I'm not too much a fan of dual exhaust which I happen notice is about all that is offered for it (it doesn't make sense to me to run one pipe back into a muffler and split it, why not just have single exhaust). Anyhow, I don't even know where to start, I've been reading around on different sites, etc and still don't have a clue which one would work best for me. I do have bigger plans down the road, but not for a little while, will stay N/A for probably at least another year. Any suggestions/thoughts.

If you plan on going turbo I recommend getting a cat back with 2.5" piping. It will just save you money in the long run, Instead of getting an exhaust now and getting another one later. The reason most of the exhaust systems are dual is because of the design of the muffler. The way the muffler sits makes it really easy to make a "dual" exhaust system. The Pacesetter I believe is 2.5" at least thats what it is for the first gens. The borla system is only 2.25" but borla sounds great on anything plus million mile warrenty. Thermal R&D I have no idea the size and I don't know what it sounds like. Project neon is getting a pacesetter just cause its the cheapest.

I may be wrong, but if he upgrades to such a larger catback system with little modification done to the engine, won't he begin to lose back pressure and performance?

Not really thats a really big myth. Here is a couple of article I have posted before that have some really good info on exhaust systems:

Yes sir, my long term plan is for that, so I was thinking along those lines. Even if I don't go the turbo route I'm still planning on working the engine pretty well.

Then you will really want to consider the pacesetter cause of it larger size.

I have the pacesetter dual cat-back. It sounds great, and I don't think I lost power, I gained it.
