Default overheating problem...help please!

i just purchased a 95 plymoth neon from a friend. she had no idea why her car would "sometimes" loose power. so i got the car cheap. she told me she has already replaced the radiator 6 months ago and told me other mechanical replacements that are not relevant to my problem. after driving the car for 20 or 30 min, the car over heated. i drove it home after waiting for 20 min and adding a little fluid. i got home and the car was making a bubbling noise... could it be the thermostat? or would it be something else

no i checked for leaks and didn't find any. i checked with the car running and off. when i shut the car off is when i heard the bubbling noise. it only lasted for a minute and then stopped. when i parked the car, it didn't show the car overheating on the dash. the needle was right in the middle of h and c

it seams like its bubblin into your overflow and when it cools back down it sucks it back in, thats usually the sign of a bad thermostat

it was over heating if i stopped moving. it only did it in parking lots and redlights. like i said when i parked the car i shut it off. the car was making a bubbling noise. the needle was fine until i stopped at a red light. it jumpedstraight to h and started dinging at me then. when i drove it home i made sure to avoid streets with lights and just kept moving. so the needle didn't move from the center of the consol at all. it was only when i was stopped at a redlight or parking lot 5 mph that it jumped.

Is the fan even running? Could be it due to it only happens when sitting still. a thermostat or radiator would normally be while driving when it needs alot of cooling. The fan basicly is for idle or stopped operations. when the car moves down the road the air into the grill cools it. Fan still has some responsabilty but not muchat this point.

I had the same problem with my 95, only overheat when it stopped. Turned out that the head gasket was blown.
