Default RE: Engine rebuildkits?

Well, as for the turbokit, it will make my car illegal... I`ve just checked, and it probably want be approved [:@]
Norwegian laws sucks big time!!
So now I`ll have to find out something else to do with my car while still keeping my engine naturally aspired.

71RoadRunner: Why would you by Top and Bottom end rebuild kit from Modern Performance , instead of the one that Howell Automotive offers?

This is probably gonna ruin me completely, but there is one thing I would like to do since I can`t get my turbo:
Norways leading US car magazine "Amcar" are building a NA-engine Neon project-car, and I would so much like to beat them on racetracks..!

Any tips on how to achieve this? I don`t know exactly what they will do to the car, so that means I have do do some serious rebuilding to my own, just to be sure

The one from Howell doesn't seem to give you any options like the Modern kits do. Plus I've dealt with Modern Performance before, in fact I got my last order from in them friday, and have had great service through them. As I mentioned before, I prefer Modern for their giving you choices for you to customize it to what exactly your looking for performance wise.

Well, if it was your engine, and you wanted to get some 250+ HP, plus high torque, what would you choose to do?

I probably want most of the torque in the low- and midrange of RPM, since all I care about are acceleration, not top speed.
My car does about 120 mph, and that is more than enough for me.

For over 250 HP I would go with Moderns 12.5 to 1 compression kit, but Your going to need better than your run of the mill pump premium gas. To get more torque you should bore the block as far as possible and stroke it as well. A turbo would get you where you want to be and with more torque than you know what to do with, but if you can't then you can't.

After a lot of thinking, I realise that I should probably learn a bit more about building engines before I take on a huge project...

So while I`m studying basic engine theory, this is what I`m beginning with :
Iceman Intake, Unorthodox crankshaft pulley, MPx billet throttle body, MSD DIS-2 ignition system, Borla rear muffler and Pacesetter header.
And a few other things like Magnecor spark plug wires, MSD ignition coil, Prothane motor mount insert and suspension bushings.
I think it`s enough to begin with for a novice like myself

Later on I might try some internal enginework, like Top- and Bottom end rebuildkits.

I`m a little unsure about the muffler though, since I prefer the looks of a dual muffler...

Just a couple of questions before I place my order:
Does the Iceman fit the soch engine? I cant see why it shouldn`t, but I`ll ask anyway..
What exactly does the MSD DIS-2 do?? Will it fit my soch engine? And how does it work with my PCM? (maybe a stupid question though...)

This are all items that Modern Performance suggested.

Yes, the Iceman will fit the SOHC. Also, don't get the MSD-DIS 2, not yet anyway. You aren't producing enough power to warrent an entire new ignition system and as of now the DIS 2 would be a waste. Also, don't get eh MSD coil pack. It does nothing for you. It's the same exact coil as the stock coil except in red. Unless your coilpack is going bad don't waste the money on it.

Ok, thanks for the tip about the DIS-2 But if I get a pro rebuild kit later on, should I buy it then? Is it a replacement for my PCM?

And with the mods I listed above, how much gain do you think I will get?

Personally, the DI-2 is a waste if you aren't racing the car. However, I don't know that much about it to really give you a good answer.

Not sure on the gains either, I'd take it to a Dyno once everything is installed. This way you can't be disappointed when it isn't what you guessed.

I`ll take it to a Dyno after the rebuild kit has been installed. I just hope that Modern Performance are willing to send the stuff to Norway... Tuning parts are way too expensive in my country... [:@]
