Default Engine rebuildkits?

Hi, my -96 Chrysler Neon 2.0 Automatic is in desperate need of some enginework...
I plan to by a rebuildkit, and most likely one that gives some extra HP.

What would you recommend?

Howell Automotive 1
Howell Automotive 2
Modern Performance

If you have any other ideas on how to service & gain extra HP for my engine, it would be greatly apreciated

I don`t know if it`s important, but my engine has about 100.000 miles on it...

I'm confused, does the Performance Master Engine Rebulid Kit SOHC 2.0 (http://www.howellautomotive.com/Howe...oducts_id=1438) come with all those options? If so then I'd go with that one.

I think that there is also a mopar master rebuild kit for the 2.0 too.

I would probably go that way, then you're sure that you get all of the right parts

This is probably the kit I will go for, but I`m not sure just how much it will improve my engine. I guess I will have to email Howell...
Is there anything else I should do to the engine at the same time?

I tryed to Google-search for the "mopar master rebuild kit" but I didn`t find anything about it...

Anyway, all help is great help, so thanx

Depending on what you get you could build a monster engine ith that kit.

Well, I`m not sure if I want a monster engine, considering I have the automatic tranny... But an extra 25-50 HP would be great, and hopefully this kit will turn my engine in good condition again
Cars are extremely expensive in Norway, so it`s alot cheaper for me to upgrade the car I already have, then to by a newer one.

I`ve done some bodywork on my car to make it look smoother, so the engine is my next project
Any tips on what I should choose for the available options on the kit? Cam shaft, Pistons, Bore Size etc?

I noticed that SportCompactCar have done a Neon Project, but their mods seems to cost a bit too much...

I`s not easy to deside what parts to by, since I`m not even a novice when it comes to engines..

What does your transsmision have to do with anything? Sorry, but the whole automatic thing irritates me. The ATX is just as good if not better than the MTX, in my opinion. There are a lot more things one can do with an ATX than an MTX, theres a lot of performance options for the ATX than the MTX. If you want to talk about those options, let me know. I happen to drive a semi-built ATX with a full race rebuild on slate for the next month or so.

And since you aren't going to bore the engine just stick with the standard bore size. You can increase the compression with a different type of piston but I wouldn't go too crazy. I wish I knew what cam those numbers corresponded to.

What are your plans with the car in the long run?

Plus, wasn't the Howell Auto car a auto (the first gen)? People couldn't shift fast enough to run that bad boy!

I just thougt that the tranny couldnt take too much power before it gave up... I`ve seen performance rebuild kits for the ATX, but only 3 speeds, and mine is 4 speed (if I remember correctly).

If you have any tips for the ATX, it would be great.

I will probably keep the car for many years, so I don`t mind putting some money in it, making it faster and stronger in curves. Top speed aren`t my primary goal, just want to get better acceleration and better handling.
And I would like to get it right the first time I always hate to do a semi-good job, just to find out I have to do everything all over again...

I appreciate your help, thanx

Are you talking about Gizmo's car? Yeah, it was an ATX and a damn quick one at that.

Eirik,

No, if yopu've got a 1st gen you've got yourself a 3 spd. And a stock Neon ATX can withstand 300+ HP. Though most ATX guys build them up before then.

There is a lost you can do.

Valve bodies, rebuild kits, transfer gears, ring and pinion/planetary gears, limited slip. What are you looking to do with the car? Turbo, naturally aspirated? It all depends on what you are looking to accomplish and what youa re looking to spend.
