Default Full Synthetic.....

Ok,
What is everyone's opinionon full synthetic, and when is the best time to stsrt using it.

I run full syn in my wife's 01 and the thing blows off 39 m/p/g on the highway on long trips: )

My 04 has 5,000 miles on it and is due for a lof, is it to early to start with it, cause I have heard that you should wait till at least 10,000?????

Opinions any one????

I haven't heard of anytime that is right to use synthetic. I've been using synthetic for about 3 years now and wouldn't trade back to regular oil. Go ahead and swith to synthetic, it's not going to hurt anything.

my 94 altima has 190k on it and I just switched it over to synthetic. I wouldn't run any longer between oil changes then you do with regular oil. I still change my oil every 3k. But I run my cars extremly hard so I like keeping clean fresh oil in them.

I know mobil 1 makes it for newer cars and older cars. And it states it on the front. I beleive for newer cars it is 5/30 and for the older it is 10/30 or 10/40. can't remeber

5/30 for most newer vehicles, except all newer fords require 5/20. Honda hybrids require 0/30. Most late '80s to mid '90s 10/30, anything older the '80 you should probably be running at least 10/40. I personaly run 10/30 in my altimas even though 5/30 is what is recomended. But I race my altimas at the strip so a heavier oil is needed. When I start road racing I will probably start using 10/40 or 20/50 because of the length of the runs the oil will really start to thin out.

The reason they say to wait till 10,000 miles is cause the engine break-in, the synthetic is such a good lubricant that it does not let the engine wear at all. Now I don't know how many miles to use regular oil but 6,000 - 10,000 miles would sound about right to me.

Alot of that is myth I know a lot of engines that have been run on synthetic since the first time they started up. But of course I think that running regular oil for the first 500 miles is a really good idea because it allows the engine to "loosen up" a bit more then synthetic will. And a Loose motor is a fast motor
