Why won't the replacement coolant temp sensor for my '98 neon fit the current electrical connection in my car? The one in my car is oblong and the replacement part from the dealer is circular. Won't fit.

The 1995-1999 Neon’s should use coolant sensor Chrysler #4661341 it has 3 pins arranged in a triangle pattern and the connector is round (see link). The part number should be stamped in the brass between the threads and where the wrench fits on.
Is it possible that someone replaced the one on the car with an after market sensor and spliced on a new plug??
