If I recall correctly it usually goes by the "How-Bad of a Day" you are having clause.

I used to have a lot of buddy's who were cops back in NJ and it was always fun busting their *****. When they were either off duty and hanging out or whenever they came into my shop in uniform. It was even more fun then becuse the customers would have this surprised look on their face.

Your owner's manual should have the recommended shift points for economy as well as the best ones for performance.
By all means, downshift when slowing down. It will keep you in control and reduce wear on the brakes (the compression of the engine helps to slow the car down). BTW, in some states, like here in Texas, it's against the law to coast down the highway in nuetral. How they expect us to detect that, they didn't say....

The "coasting" provision is covered in the Texas Criminal Law and Motor Vehicle Handbook on page 505...."(a) An operator moving on a downgrade may not coast with the gears or transmission of the vehicle in neutral." So as long as you're on level ground, you should be OK in Texas, anyway....

is it leagl to have the front corners clear with clear blinkers? or do the blinkers on the corners have to be amber too?
I do nto like that look, so I replaced my front turn signals with silverstars but I want to get clear corners too.

It was my understanding they could be clear but the bulbs are "supposed" to be amber. But I don't really know of any officer that enforces that when they can be enforcing other more important things.

acid mojojo, I cited the Texas law on the clear corners in the SRT-4 section if you want the exact wording. It said you could have either amber or clear lamps/reflectors that do not "cast a glare". In everyday language, that means it's up to the officer to determine if you get a ticket....like I've said before, I never have written tickets for lights other than red/blue showing from the front. It's a poorly worded law and just means more time in court for me.
Crazy Squee, no state noise laws I'm aware of yet down here, but with NAFTA and all the Mexican trucks driving through here hell bent for leather, I wouldn't be surprised if they enact some. The trouble is a serious lack of manpower to enforce the rules. Agencies are already stretched to the limit just inspecting vehicles for drugs. I-35 is a major drug corridor from Mexico and they bust trucks everyday. San Antonio tried to pass a noise law here a few years ago in City Council, but it was defeated and hasn't come up for reconsideration. It would be almost impossible to enforce....who do you pull over first, the guy with the Flowmasters or the guy with the 5 million watt stereo??? They once proposed having spot checks with "noise meters", but in reality, that won't work either. Noise comes fron all directions and sources. Checks during state vehicle inspections are a waste as well, 90% of the inspection stations are on the take and will pass any vehicle...for a price.

i think the noise ordinance laws are a waste anyway. I'm not allowed in Colorado Springs because of my exhaust. It's a joke. I think it's a horrible waste of resources to have police officers pull people over for loud cars when they could be pulling over people running drugs and or murderers and such.
