Checks during state vehicle inspections are a waste as well, 90% of the inspection stations are on the take and will pass any vehicle...for a price.
Ouch... always suspected that's why those if us in counties with poor seasonal air quality now have our test results beamed directly to Austin - and pay 2X to fund the new inspection systems.

There's a list of Texas traffic offense titles HERE. Sort of a "Cliff Notes" version since you can usually tell what the violation is from the title. Muffler violations are in 547.604. Apparently it does cover "loud", but most noise enforcement I've seen has also been based on local ordinances rather than state law.

It's a bit overwhelming to consider all the things that might get you pulled over. If my wife read this stuff, she'd probably be concerned about getting busted every time she lets me use her car for 705.001.... "Allowing Dangerous Driver to Borrow Vehicle" [sm=innoc.gif]

I dont really downshift.. I coast and use the brakes to stop.

I also leave the car in neutral when I park and only use the emergency brake.

It IS a bit much. If I enforced every law in there, I could pull over 95% of the cars on the road.....and spend the rest of my days off in court until I retire in 10 years....[:'(]

ok..i was said that its illegal to coast in neautral on the highway..if your going so fast anyways and you out it in neautral..how are they gonna detect that?? granted you will slow down evetually obviously, but that seems rediculous..if im going 80 and i wanna throw it in neutral..who the hell cares

The book specifies it's illegal on "a downgrade" which makes sense, especially for larger vehicles...

Dusty, I'm willing to bet that if you wanted to you could find a reason to pull anyone over you wanted to. But since you don't want to spend the rest of your life in court, you only pull over the people who are really doing something wrong.

Can't imagine anyone even trying to detect it...... like what, a "coasting trap"? [sm=smiley11.gif] Think it's more likely to get used assigning cause or fault after the fact, as is the case with many of the other offenses.
