gas mileage
My wife has the R/T 4.0, and she is getting like 10-11 local, and 14-16 on the highway. My 04 Dakota with 4.7 gets better. She is a very conservative driver. It only has 3,000 miles, and we are hoping once it is broke in it gets better. The Ford explorer she trade in on this got like 18 in town, and 22+ on the highway.
Holy ****e! I get better mileage than that in my 5.7L QC Ram 4x4!
I can't say that I was seriously considering a Nitro, but it most definitely piqued my curiosity. Not so sure anymore seeing as there is minimal difference in gas mileage... if any at all.

My 07 R/T Nitro gets 16.9 in city and 21-22 hwy. Something must be wrong with her Nitro if she's only getting 10-11 city! That's the lowest I've heard from anyone. Could be time to reset the system via the negative battery post or take it back to the dealer!
I agree with the other post, my 03 QC hemi Ram got 13.6 city and 16 hwy (w/o MDS).

I have a 2007 3.7 Nitro and I am getting a terrible 14.4 MPG. I do mostly city driving. I thought I would at least get 16-17 MPG. My V-8 durango usually got better gas milage than this. For as small as this truck is the milage should be better. Other than that though, I like the Nitro.
Hello Friends, I'm new to the forum, looks interesting. Noticing the post on gas milage seems strange to me how low the reports are. I have a '08 Nitro, 3.7 . I live in central Tx. very many hills. I have put a Flowmaster muffler, and K&N filter. Depending on such things as wind direction Up or down hill ect. I get 23-26 highway. I was concered about the extreme variences, but lets face it the Nitro is not the most aerodynamic shape. On rare occations I have seen as high as 27. Letting the thing breathe seems to be the trick. Hope this helps someone.

My neighbor's girfriend bought a 2011 i belive its the 4.0 V6 because hers is all shiny, and has those cheap plastic chrome looking rim covers on it and stuff.
She drives to work on the freeway everyday its about a 45m drive to work and 45m back. Within 1 week of owning it the nitro is leaking transmission fluid all over the road, when she backs up it litterally leaves drip marks its leaking so bad.. She had the dealership fix it, but now she is complaining about the $75 to fill the tank up doesnt last for more then 2-3 days or so.
These nitro's seems to get really crappy gas mileage.
Our 4.0 Inline 698 Grand Cherokee with 170k miles, gets about 17 city, and 22 highway, a full tank lasts about 1 week. My 5.9 V8 Grand Cherokee gets around 13-14 city, and 18-20 highway (depending on my speed).
Personally if a newer engine cant get better gas mileage then most V8's then i say thats pretty crappy.. It might be that the gas mileage isnt too great because that engine is pretty underpowerd for a 4k pound vehicle and the nitro isnt exactly an aerodynamic SUV... Its like a square box on wheels.. the 3.7 is like what 230 lbs of torque and 210 hp or something ? Thats sad, and i think the reason everyone's v8's seem to get about the same or maybe slightly less mpg is because the torque tho engines put out ... you dont have to step on the gas to make them go..
Its the same thing with Jeeps and the 4.0 I6 (aka 4.slow) that engine has about the same power specs as the 3.7 and ZJ's only weigh 3400 lbs. Imagine moving something that weighs more with a underpowerd engine.. i would guess thats why the gas mileage aint too great
Be carefull relying on what the computer tells you your gas mileage is on the freeway when reading the realtime display... My 5.9 v8 at 50mph on a straight road with a slight decline always reads 30mpg.. Then when the road evens out it drops to around 22... The realtime reading isnty very accurate road conditions really change it
