Default help! no right side power when trailering

Hey guys,

i am a newbie to this forum and i specifically signed up to ask you, the pros for some help.

i have a 2008 dodge nitro and i do a lot of towing. Magically for whatever reason, i have NO right side power to my trailer. the trailer is 4 pin and i bought a new 7 to 4 convertor and I had the trailer wire checked and its fine.

I have done some initial testing on my truck and i am getting left signal, left brake, left hazards, but no right side! its like something is shot? I checked the fuses under the hood and they are fine.

I am told there is something behind the taillight??

I called my local hitch shop and it'll probably cost me $300-$400 for parts and labor. I am hoping to do this myself.

can anyone help?

thanks.

Tim

Could it be a defective 7/4 converter? Sometimes new stuff does not work!

Maybe double-check the trailer. I know of nothing that gives more wiring problems than trailers. This could be a bad ground on the right side of the trailer wiring. I just went through this with a trailer. That sounds likely if nothing on that side works.

If the tailor wiring checks out start with a test light and check for power at the 7 wire plug on the back of your truck. If it does not have power when and were it should be you will have to start tracing the wires forward in until you find current and the problem will be somewhere in between.

I just re-read your post. You said you have left turn, left flasher, left stop but no right side. The break, turn, and flasher are all the some wire. Do you get a right taillight? If you have a right taillight then all that is not working is the one wire to the stop/turn signal, likely a bad wire or poor connection.
