Default Hello, leak part 2 - what is leaking?

Hi everyone, thank you "HeyYou" admin for putting my question into the correct thread - however, I don't have any access to send messages on that thread yet, maybe cause I'm new.

So here I am again in the new member forum asking for help.

I was able to pull off the grill and bumper and access the leak. I cut off the clamp where it was leaking and put in a new clamp. Will see tomorrow if it worked if nothing drips overnight.

Yet, more concerning now is this. Can somebody tell me what kind of fluid is this? So this started squirting out big time when I disconnected the line to put the new clamp on. When I took it to AutoZone customer service said he thinks it's transmission fluid but he's never seen transmission fluid burnt to this color before. A mechanic friend also said the same thing. He thinks that this can't be transmission fluid because he's never seen transmission fluid that color. He's guessing that it is power steering fluid?? (See first photo)

WELL, I know exactly where the fluid came out of. (See second and third photo). Can someone verify whether this is the transmission coolant line or the power steering line? Thanks so much!!

Fluid out of the line.

The bottom line is the one I just put a new clamp on. This is the up close photo. It's right in front of the radiator. Right behind the grill and bumper.

This is a wide-angle shot, the line, as you can tell, is towards the bottom above the bumper area. It loops around so the two lines are connected. Can somebody tell me what that line leads to? Thank you so much!!!

Ok, from your previous thread, you are driving 2019 Dodge RAM RV conversion. So, a van, right?

That's a mondo cooler for P/S fluid though..... It's not an engine oil cooler, and it's the wrong color for trans fluid, that leaves.... Power steering fluid. I would suspect that you have electric power steering on yours??? Should be a reservoir for it under the hood somewhere.... Check the level, see what it looks like.

Side Note: Give me a few minutes to look at your account, then see if you can actually post in the correct forum. If you can, lemme know, and I'll merge this thread with that one.

Hi!

Thank you so much! Yes I can reply to this here. Yup, it's a Dodge ram promaster 2019. I know I have power steering, I don't know if it's electric? I'll check the power steering fluid tomorrow morning to see what level it's on!

Thanks again!

Default power steering fluid amount and type?

Good morning,

Thank you so much. The leak is fixed and the power steering fluid tank is just empty so that must have been the line! Also the liquid inside looks exactly like what was dripping out.

I looked in the vehicle manual this morning and it really doesn't give much help as to how much or what kind of steering fluid i need to purchase. it just some type of fluid that is not available and doesn't give an amount I need to put in.... so I called Autozone and they are recommending Prestone MAX Power Steering Fluid: European Vehicles, With Stop Leak, Enhances System Life, 100k miles, 12 oz. (European one?) that's what is popping up in their system. It would be about $15/12 oz....advice?

Also, if the tank only has about an inch left inside, I'm guessing I need at least 1 liter? or more?

Thanks!

Skip the stuff with stop leak, you don't need it. The owners manual doesn't say what type of fluid to use????

The manual said: Pentosin CHF 11S power steering fluid meeting FCA Material Standard MS-11655 which I couldn't find ...

I ended up calling the Dodge dealership and they sold me something that says Mopar. It doesn't say Pentosin but apparently this is what they put in the vehicles now... The guy said as long as it says MS-11655 on it, it is okay.

Btw, I ended up having to buy a quart of that stuff, 2 bottles, $30 / bottle. Ugh! Though I'm feel better getting the right stuff .....
