Default Drove a new 6.7 Today

I finally found one and took it for a test drive. Wow it is quiet very powerful almost zero lag. The exhaust brake is great. That was the loudest the engine got was when braking, kinda sounded like a very muffled engine brake, lots of stopping power. If that is how the EB works on the 5.9 I gotta get one! The six speed auto shifted smooth and had a nice tall OD (1750 rpm @ 70 mph), but I didn't like when it shifted it would flare slightly and then takea while to pull the rpm back to lock up. I didn't beat it, but I did roll into the throttle from a stop light. It spun the tires a little and chirped 2nd, it wouldn't take much power braking to make this thing boil the tires IMO (didn' try it). When I was done I looked it over. The exhaust pipe was as clean as brand new NO SOOT at all. It doesn't have the goofy looking tip on it like the Ford andGM do.The engine compartment is a little more cramped than my 5.9. I didn't see the EB, it is not in the turbo down pipe. All in all nice ride.

I had the chance to take a look at one myself. I was floored by the new componenets in the engine compartment. I couldn't believe the electronics connected to the intake manifold and exhaust, no wonder you didn't see any soot. For one the aftermarket intake manifolds sure stops with the 5.9. Manufacturers have a whole new market to tap, although.... you would probably have to learn to live with CEL's if you tried to replace anything. [sm=bangbang.gif]

Thanks for the report ..... now, when will we see the pics [sm=confused06.gif]:-)

the EB is integrated into the turbo. . .since the turbo is actualy a VGT the nozzle in the turbo also acts as an exhaust brake

No pics of a new truck in my driveway for some time to come. I will need to pay on this one for a while before I could even think of broaching the subject of a new one with the boss... um i mean wife.

Drew, I thought I read that somewhere. I'll tell you one thing, it was like throwing out an anchor when it kicked in. I still wanna see if they have the issues my Ford did with EGR clogging and egr coolers leaking, and turbos sticking, etc, etc. Time will tell.

you are right. . .only time will tell. I know Cummins has been putting EGR's on OTR tractors for some time with alot of sucess, however these engines are a different beast and do not see the same type of mileage.

one of the main issues with the Ford EGR was the engine itself. Ford was demanding more performance out of a smaller footprint.
