So i posted about my shocks being loose. So i went to tighten them today. got em fairly tight. took two wrenches with me. a 18 mm and a 19 mm. so the 19 was the best fit.
So I set the 18 on the fan shroud.
When I was done I totally forgot about the the 18 i set on the shroud.
So I start up the truck and head for town.
Half way to town my truck starts clankin and I loose my power steering. I pull over to the side of the road and am like what the heck this thing is new.
So I call chrysler and the tow trucks on the way. Im thinkin what could be wrong.
I pop the hood and look in, I couldnt have done anything by tightening the shocks could I?
I see the serpentine belt, looks like it went threw a cheese grater.
Yup guess where the wrench went.
Must have went into the belt and !@#$% everything up.
So know the truck is down at the dealer, said they will fix it first thing on monday.
So hopefully it will be covered under warranty, cuz... er... uh.... i dont know what happened.

 

a good mechinic is like a surgen he needs to count his tools at the end of the job to make sure he didn't leave any inside.

I learned the hard way about45 years ago.

 

Hopefully none of the techs have ever run into that problem before so they won't be able to spot it and deny it's warranty

 

Oh man, now I feel bad telling you to tighten them Dont worry tho, it happens to the best of us.

 

You have to look on the bright side at least you didn't get the "Darwin Award"

 

Don't feel bad brother........we all do stupid stuff. Like letting a wrench contact the two terminals of a 750 CCA battery.......[:-]

You only do it once.

 

Or uhhhhhhh, leave a 7/16 wrench under a vavle cover........[:-]and find 50k later

Want to talk stupid - back when I was a mechanic I had a service writer jump into the car to get the mileage. She turned the key too far and turned over the engine. Just happened my hand was near the belt and it got pulled into the pulley. I now have a middle finger 2" shorter than it should be. Oh well, good conversation starter!

 

I have the same thing only mine was compliments of a Hammer Head Shark that I was trying to release but after he took part of my finger he ended up on the menu of our local seafood resturant the next day.
