Did I kill it?

RE: Did I kill it?
Oh I hear you Mayfair. It was a simple fix. But at the time I had just dropped $1800 into rebuilding the tranny so things were a little lean. I'm definitely going to upgrade in the future though, anda FASS looks like the answer. I guess you can call it an insurance policy on your injector pump.

RE: Did I kill it?
That kit uses a walbro pump which are excellent pumps. I used one for my car. If I'm unhappy with the quality of the fuel line I'll just bend my own steel lines. Sure, it's a kit that somebody took the time to piece together and make it work, and from what I've read, it does just that. Before I do it I'll ask if anyone has had bad experiences with the kit, but I've read some raves about it already.

I understand the older trucks with the VP44 have lift pump problems, but what about my 04.5? Does it suffer lift pump problems and does it damage the injector pump?

I don't know guy's.
For some reason I don't think you guy's have the VP-44, I think you have the CP-3.
The VP-44 is NOT tolerant of a fuel pressure loss at all and will die a fast death without fuel, whereas the CP-3I believe CAN handle it and will survive. I may be wrong so don't take my word on it, but I think that's how it goes.

RE: Did I kill it?
the pump in the 3rd gen common rails is the exact same crappy carter pump the 2nd gen 24 valves used. are there problems. . yup. . .am I worried about killing my CP3. . .just a little, however it has the ability to pull its own fuel where the VP44 doesnt. also the CP3 is more tollerant of low fuel flow situations. it still requires diesel to cool and lubricate parts, however the internals are a bit more robust.
if your stock pump dies the dealer will replace it with one that goes into the tank. . .personaly, I would upgrade to an aftermarket pump that flows a bit more fuel.
