Exhaust Upgrade thread
Is there a thread in here about turbo-back exhaust upgrades. My uncle has a 2005 and is very conservative about after market upgrades, but he keeps talking about larger exhaust systems that he's seen very positively. Before I invest, I'd like to get some feedback. How's the performance?? How's the effect on the motor?? Is there negative warranty aspects??
From what I know to big is bad and to small is loud. As for warranty I hear most ppl here just say it just voids the exhaust warranty. I'm getting 4in. with 5in tip and I'm only goin to have moderate HP upgrades. here is what I'm lookin at --- http://www.xtremediesel.com/index.as...mp;ProdID=1174
removal of the stock muffler does help if you are towing. . .it reduces back pressures which also reduces EGT's, however straight piping can be loud and have a drone.
the 4 inch exhaust on these trucks is good to around550-600 or so hp. at that point 5 inch would be needed since the 4 inch would not be able to handle the exhaust flow. under stock conditions a 5 inch exhaust would hurt performance since the exhaust would slow down too much and hinder performance.
best thing I can say is look at some aftermarket exhausts, and look around the site at what others have done. straight flow thru mufflers are the best, but can get loud if you get into it.
