Has anyone ever given a rational explanation / reason why diesel fuel costs DID go past the cost of regular fuel?

Taxes. I'm orignially from the Northeast myself and DieselDemon can back me up here. NY, and the north in genereal hasinsane amounts of taxes on fuel, both gas a diesel. It just seems like whenever a state needs more money the first thing they reach for is additional taxes on fuel. Gets old in a hurry if you ask me.

I hear that...I started rodeoing and going on the road a lot when I was 16 and gas at the time was in the 80 cents a gallon range and thought it was terrible to spend $30+ on a tank of gas. But now $75 is a steal and makes you wish you had a reserve tank in the bed.

The reason they give when pressed for diesel being higher is the extra refining needed to remove the sulfer. I call BS because it took less refining to getthe diesel to begin with. Just like gas went up when they removed the lead. The only probelm with that is lead was an additive, not something that was removed. Greed is the only answer.
BTW, I remember gas in Jersey being <$0.50 a gallon. I also remember waiting in line for your alotment of gas durring the 70's. I was a passenger not the driver.
