Anyone useing the S&B or K&N air intake kits for the 5.9 2004.5 and up, I would appreciate any feed-back on either one or both of these intakes. I am planning on doing this mod soon and would like to know what to expect buy useing these products. The S&B claims to filter around 99.4 percent of the dirt particals, I am not sure what K&N is claiming. Any feed back is welcome, Thanks Sonny T

 

for these engines. . .a filter with oil on it is asking for trouble. . .your best bet is to go with either a paper filter, amsoil nano, or the progrard or what ever it is called. . .

 

Iam running the S&B CAI and love it..no issues at all, so far.

 

I am also running the S&B so far so good. Gives the turbo a nice sound. And install was easy.

 

i have the aem brute force dry filter and absolutely love fast turbo spool, it's easy to clean, keeps dirt out, and the number one reason i like it no oil

 

Did I miss something? Why would an oiled air like K&N etc. filter cause problems?

 

so should I 86 the k&n on my 93 ctd?

 

I would say check the intake tube between the filter and the turbo.
If you have any indication of dust or dirt there, then dump the K&N.
I had a Airraid dropin and after 10000 miles, removed it for cleaning.
The prefilter pad on it had been sucked into the pleats.
Nothing made it to the turbo.
I dumped it and got a Amsoil dropin.
Truck seems to run better.

 

I've got a K&N on my 98. The truck definately breathes better, however I agree with the others and would reccomend a non oiled air filter. I clean my K&N every 5000 miles when I do an oil change, so I kinda know just how much oil to use, but if you over-oil it THAT'S when you could pull the oil through the filter and have some problems.

If I were you, I'd go with one of those monsters that Drew put on his truck. Keep it clean, and you'll be fine.

 

i also have a 99 ctd with the ho motor it has the k@n filter and it is nothing compared to the aem dry filter and tube im going to eventually change it over. The K@N usually is always dirty and is a pain to clean i clean it every oil change to
