06 2500 CTD MegaCab Questions
I currently have an 051500QC Hemi and am thinking of trading in an effort to possibly increase mileage. I currently average between 12 and 14 mpg and tow a few big quads almost every weekend.
I can't help but think the CTD would be better suited for my weekend adventures, and I love the extra room of the mega cab. I am looking at a 4x2 2500 SLT 06 left on the lot. Most people seem to be buying/looking forthe new 6.7 around here. The verdict is still out on the performance on the new motor, but the 6 speed auto sounds nice. Should I hold out for one of the 07.5s?
After reading through here, I get the feeling that I may not get the mileage increases that I am seeking out of the 06. I have noticed that I should look for the 3.73 gearing and not the 4.10, manual is not an option(wife likes auto).
Is there a way to tell which gearing a truck has by looking at the price sticker or another sticker located on the truck anywhere?
Any other advice to a potential Cummins newbie?

RE: 06 2500 CTD MegaCab Questions
the sticker will have the gear ratio, keep in mind you will get better mileage perhaps not by much, but diesel fuel is much cheaper, maintenance is much leass, you will not fry your rings, rear end and trans is stronger. No more spark plugs to get to under that nice and pesky brake booster and you can then subscribe to 8 lug.

RE: 06 2500 CTD MegaCab Questions
On my 06 megacabcummins4x4stock i am getting ~20 mpg hand calculated with adding power service diesel. Depending on what area you live in diesel may be cheaper but who knows how much. If you are quading wouldnt a 4x4 be nice since you are taking them to trails ect. It may be more, but it is better to need it and not have it than have it and not need it.

I agree with the others. The diesel fuel may at times be, and definately WON'T at times be less expensive. It depends on the time of year.
Pros :
BADD AZZ !!!
roomy
should get better mileage
easier / less expensive to maintain
easily user maintained
longer engine life
didI mention BADD AZZ ??
Cons:
diesel fuel not available everywhere
need to keep fuel warm or add additives in winter
not as many good mechanics / shops
noisier ( for some, this is a con )
possible driveway spotter
That's really about all thatI can think of.
Welcome aboard !!
