there is a rumor. . .just a rumor. . .but toyota has been talking with Cat about putting a diesel just this size in a 3/4-1 ton version of the tundra.

the only problems I have seen from the C7's has been the back plate of the water pump cracking. however the military version of the C7 is different than the regualr Cat C7, but I say this in that it makes me wonder if the water pump design is the same on these C6's.

My friend has a f-650. spent over 150,000.00 on that beast runs 48 inch cement mixer tires and has a cat motor, this thing is nuts, when I had my 1500 it looked like he can park on top of my truck.

I am a tech a cat dealer.I have not seen a big problem with the water pumps on c-7s but they do have injector problems and they have injection pump problem with the check valves in the pump.the c-7 do run good on the upper hp ranges 350hp.there are app they are working on to get into the small truck industries.the hardest thing right now is weight and cost.acert tech is good but will be exp if not maintained in the new 07 engine there are alot things the driver are going to have to be aware of.Everybody else is doing the cold egr which is not up to 2010 epa standards for semi trucks.

The c7 is just too heavy of an engine, that's why I'm betting that it'll be the c6.6 that'll make it into pickups.

I am a Earthmoving tech at a CAT dealer also....I have not heard anything of this nature, except for wishful thinking. Makes sense. Another untapped market for CAT. Personally, I think it is long overdue.

They're building a cat store pretty close to my house supposed to be done around december. I wish it was sooner, I'd rather work for Cat insted of I.H.

the C7 engines that the military gets are one-of engines for military spec. . .normaly you dont see a cat engine with a waste gate. I dont have a pic of the water pump placement, however there is a bracket that is used on the back of it that is causeing the problems. . .once again, military spec one-of.

Funny, I heard a RUMOR that CAT is looking to buy into International trucks and use complete Caterpillar powertrain. PACCAR wanted to rename CAT engines PACCAR engines and not let CAT dealers service or sell parts. CAT and PACCAR do not do business anymore. So....You might be working for CAT soon ! Just a RUMOR....

Actually I.H. is planning to build their own big bore engines (there's some good new). Are you sure it was cat and not cummins? Paccar was buying a bunch of cummins engines and slapping their name on them with a few of their own parts.
