Default Anyone else have trouble brake torquing?

I dont do brake torques or normally do them. The other night i tried 1 for the hell of it. I was surprised I couldnt do it with my 2004.5 CTD 4X4 quad cab. I held brake with 1 foot and basically put fuel pedal to floor and nothing. turbo spools up and nothing.my buddy in his 2006 or 2007 6.0 PSD can do it in 4 wheel drive. whats up?is it normal

the disc brakes on the rear make it a bit of a challenge at times, dont hold the brake down so hard, if nothing else you know you have good brakes!

you gotta find a happy medium to have enough braking power to hold the truck still, but not allow the rear brakes to engage.

you can lightly hold the brakes to keep the truck from rolling, roll onto the throttle, once the rear tires begin to break loose give just a touch more brake to keep her still.

try doing this with a 6spd

Even though the 47 and 48 automatics have been considerably beefed up
they still have the inherent flaw
in the 'sprag' or overrunning clutch
that can explode if the tires are
'burning out'
and then suddenly find traction again.

Everyone who does burn outs with 46/47/48 transmissions
ought to put a $100 bill in the glove compartment
after each burn out
as a fund to pay for the trans rebuild that will now come sooner
(and of course for new rubber as well)

If the tranny is working properly, and the fluid is not superheated, what damage occurs? Are you talking about the one way clutch on the stator?

Granted I have had my tranny rebuilt extremely tough, but burnouts shouldn't do any damage. If that stator clutch breaks, it was junk to begin with......lol.

Good luck with ALL our rides.

From John Kunkel's excellent set of photos

http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumList?u=1751254

Go down to Album number 12,
TF 727
then to photo 55

This is the sprag, or over-running clutch,
that can be damaged in a burn-out

there are many more photos of the 48 series internals
at this photo album:

Believe it or not I just tried my first burn out in my Ram last night. I was VERY impressed with myself for being able to restrain myself for as long as I did !!

I lit em right up, or should I say IT right up. I could only get one wheel to break loose. What's up with that?
