ORIGINAL: ToiletDucky

hey guys is it true that I only have to change the oil in this engine every 15,000 miles? http://www.schwab-kolb.com/dodge/en/dodge009.htm Also anyone have a link on where I can find how to change the oil on this guy myself? I'm giong out to the farm tomorrow and this will be my first time to do it myself. I've always just had someone at the Co-op do it for me.
Thanks
Duck

what oil are yous using? 15w40 conventional or 15w40 synthetic or 5w30(5w40)synthetic? I just bought a used 2004 diesel and dont know what previous owner ran in it. engine doesnt use oil but I dont wanna switch to amsoil synthetic and have a oil burning issue because its so thin. What oil should a person use? What oil and fuel filters are best? The odge (mopar dealer) ones or donaldson?

If I remeber right, a bearing set is only about $50 but then you gotta roll them in so you have to choose which you prefer doing. I think I'll stick with oil changing

I'm at 14k... however I have a bypass kit installed. I'm planning on doing an oil change @ 15k with another oilsample of what comes out.

I did my last oil change last week and was surprised to not see one spec of metal in the used oil or pan. I have changed from Rotella 15W40 dino oil to Rotella 5W40 Synthetic and the truck appears to run quieter. I am going to do some towing so I figured that the synthetic would be better overall. I have always done oil changes every 5,000 km it is easy to remember. I am probably going to change the oil based on every 200 hrs as I have always done with highway trucks and industrial equipment without any engine failures to date.

ToiletDuckey .... LOL !!!

Welcome aboard bro !!

I believe there is a stickied thread at the top explaining how to do an oil change on your Ram. I too change mine every 5K using regular ole Rotella T ( which BTW guy's my by-pass hose mod works PERFECTLY .... no smell at all anymore ) and a Fleetguard filter.

Best of luck to ya with your new Ram !!
