2005 5.9L cummins oil change
hey guys is it true that I only have to change the oil in this engine every 15,000 miles? http://www.schwab-kolb.com/dodge/en/dodge009.htm Also anyone have a link on where I can find how to change the oil on this guy myself? I'm giong out to the farm tomorrow and this will be my first time to do it myself. I've always just had someone at the Co-op do it for me.
Thanks

your manual will lay this out better for you, 15,000 is an option if you are doing mostly highway miles, stop and go or short trips, and the book says 3,750 I think.
I change mine every 5,000 regardless. it's just cheap insurance.

I am going to change mine after my return from orgeon will be about 5000 then. I drive like a old man most of the time, there is the off road time and of course when I try to smoke pedestrians out. Can't seem to get a big burst though. any tips?
The book for the '06 calls for 15k for oil for light service and 7,500 for severe. Personally, I've been splitting the difference and doing every 10k. 52k on the clock and going strong.
From others I've talked to, I think these milages were updated in '06. I understand the earlier models called for more frequent changes.

Every 5k miles for me. Probably not neccassary but it makes me feel better. I have also been changing my fuel filter at every oil change.

The hr meter is a great tool for this. 250 Hr intevals is what is used in heavy equipment. This is what we use for our service trucks also as they do alot of PTO time. So if you average 30 MPH (normal mix) its 7500 miles. More highway miles and you can go longer on your mileage. Works for me anyway....
