how hard is it to put a 96 5.9 cimmin in to a dakota? How much wiring is involved? I know i gotto change to tank and fuel pump. I have a 97 dakota on airbages and iwant to do something differnt.

 

Just put it in the bed, no wiring needed.

 

As far as wiring, there really isn't any to the 96 cummins. Just the shutdown solenoid and the starter is all you need.

 

What about the glow plugs and the injectors. So your saying only a few wires. Would this swap be wroth my time? What type of fuel pump is need or is the P-7100 pump adequatuate.What about trans anywiring needed?

 

your gonna have to beef up the front suspension pretty good on it. I would to a Solid front axle swap while your in there

I've looked into putting a 5.9 12 valve cummins in my dak. but I'm just saving up for a ram now. it will be cheaper.



my buddy put a 3.9 cummins in an 88 jeep camanche. and that thing hauls ***! he keeps breaking motor mounts though.

 

that's true a little inline 4 would be a better choice. That would cut down on a lot of weight.

anybody know how easy and how much power you can get outta the lil 3.9's?

 

I was thinking of the old mechanical one. You'd pretty much do the samething to it as the 6 cylinder. As for that one, you'll have to find someone to build a chip.

 

ya, I'd do an old one.. I think my buddys was outta a 60 somethin delivery van. he didnt even rebuild it when he put it in either. just a lil turbo upgrade and he made up mounts for it to bold up the the stock 5spd tranny too.
