Wierd shifting for automatic 05 2005 CTD
Ok, thought I would throw this out there… 2005, 2500 4 door 4x4 automatic HO, CTD ~ 73,000 miles. I got the rig on Craig’s list for a pretty good price. The engine has an edge chip (100ez), and standard stuff (H&K filter). I noticed recently when going onto the highway, when going into 4th, it skips right into 5th. This happens warm and or cold. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I did change the oil, oil filter, and cleaned the air filter within the last 2 months. I have ~ 3000 more before another oil change. Oh, and dose anyone know of a good diesel mechanic in the SF Bay Area?
Possible the bands on the trans need adjsuting. take it to a reputable shop and have the trans serviced. Let us know what happens. more people will probably chime in soon.
Could be many things. It could be your valve body for one. Also when was the last time the tranny fluid and filter been changed. I see you changed the oil and filter, but would not have nothing to do w/ the tranny shifting. As for a diesel mechanic. I can suggest a great one in Sacramento(Ken Imler Diesel). There is also Speedwind in Martinez that's a good dieseltranny builder.

start with the trans filter
a clogged filter will cause a starving effect causing it to jump gears.
the 95 will have two internal and one external adjusters on the trans. reverse/ low, and main band.
trans is electronic from 3rd to 4th. it depends on the throttle position sensor. if the tps is malfunctioning, then it wil erartically shift from 3 to 4. youre lookin at $200+ for the tps.
good luck.
when you figure it out, maybe Ill have mine fixed

No new update. When I am due for an oil change, I am going to have the tranny fluids changed out. I have not been so hard on the pedal, and it seems to shift much better. I think its the filter, or I hope... I will update in a couple weeks.
