Im officially ready!
I dunno if there IS a limit. Just a few months ago I was seriously thinking about going to Arizona to pick up a 52 Chevy ( Ilove those cars ). The guy sounded shady so i passed, but if things checked out I would have gone. I love road trips.
I bought a 2002 Ram CTD off ebay a few years ago in Dallas, Tx. Flew down there from Casper, Wy to pick it up and drove it back. A nice little 1200 mile trip You gotta be a little cautious about those ebay deals, but I taked to the guy on the phone a few times and looked at lots of pictures before buying. Turned out great, then last year I traded it for the '05 I have now.
jw_henry i would definitely have to do a lot of research on the truck before i go 1200 miles! lol
another question what is the difference in gas mileage over the years of these trucks? (12v vs 24v) and which is easier to modify? i would imagine the 12v

I've got nothing but what I've seen here to base my answer on, but it seems like the 3rd gens seem to get MUCH better mgs's than the 2nd's. I don't know about the 1sts.
pfft ... right now I'm getting 13.6mpg. Even when you factor in the difference becaue of the larger tires that still only comes out to 14.1.
Still a mystery as to why. The general concensus seems to be all of the light to light driving that I do.

12 valves tuned just right can get some pretty impressive mileage.you will probably find a 98.5-02 for a bit less than a 97-98.4. many know the issues with the 24 valve 2nd gens which makes the 12 valves and HPCR's worth more.
hmm.... i did notice that the 97-98.4's were fairly pricey.... what are the main problems with the 24valves? i think i remember hearing the lifter pumps...? like a VP44 or something is bad
