I wish they made them as loud as they do for the big rigs

I thought it only came on when the tranny was locked up, Wouldnt this mean if you shift it will turn off until your locked up in a gear again?

A jake brake is for braking, when you activate the switch it will assist in slowing the vehicle when you are off of the throttle in an automatic and in a manual trans it will work when you are off of both the throttle and clutch

You don't have to turn it off with a manaul, you just have to time your clutching perfectly so there is no gap between letting off throttle and clutching. Pressing the clutch also disengages the jake brake.
I stand corrected![&:] I was thinking of the big rigs. I remember when I drove my dad's Pete trying to take off from a light and forgetting to switch it off it would still kick in.

Well I am in Apex Nc know. We went to Blowing Rock,Boone and Grandfather mountain. I got to say the Jake worked great. Worth every dollar.Coming down from 4500 feet to 200 feet on a 8 deggrade it was a breeze. Going up I saw two Fords pulling a camper. Well lets just say I waved when I went buy. I got to say I had to put it in 2nd gear going up some inclines. The old girl was giving it hell. She did real good I have to say. The EGT with the brake did not get high. But It was the first time I saw the engine get over 200 deg. When going up the mountains it came up to 225 +/-. It fell right back down as soon as I stopped climbing. Well back to the BBQ and cold brew.

Well since we are camping I have ran to town empty a few times and got to say it helps with every day driving as well. When stopping at a red light or getting of at a exit ramp. Anyone thinking about getting one I must say it is worth it. If you pull a camper or what ever it really is worth buying. Well we will be heading back to south Mississippi Friday. The only good thing about that is no more climbing up mountains. I was so worried about my 48 re it was not funny. But as I said she did good. I even gave her a bath today to say thanks.hehe

One word of advice, if you are going to use it all the time, get a relay and wire it up so that your brake lights come on when the jake comes on. After almost getting rear ended3 times and hearing numerous people complain about it, I decided to wiremine into the brake lights.
