Mileage Report
Well I am back from Myrtle Beach. I towed our 8500 - 9000lb camper down there for the week. I decided to drive for economy and see how good I can do. I drove the posted speed limit up to 65 mph. If the posted was higher than that I just set the cruise at 65 and rolled easy. I got 11.374 MPG on the way there and 11.160 on the way back. Not too shabby considering the whole rig probably grossed out at around 16800 lbs, and there are some decent rolling hills between Greenville SC and Myrtle Beach. On the way back I even sat in stop and go traffic for about 1.5 hrs. The funny thing is there is a long steady grade on the way home that slowed my '99 7.3 down to 45 mph and my '04 6.0 down to about 55 mph pulling the exact same camper. My Dodge walked that hill in 6th gear and cruise control and never even groaned or worked hard.
Its kind of amazing how much power weve got aint it it Beek!! My ford buddies just sit over on the passenger side with their chin on the floor board wishing they had that much pull under their hood. They all swear Ive chipped mine up, but its stock and gonna stay that way fot the next 300k
I came home yesterday grossing 25k loaded down with produce (watermelons) and only dropped a couple mph with the cruise on. I run 70 loaded like that just to keep from melting my trailer tires
