Default What is capacity of transfer case?

I have a 2004 dodge 2500 CTD 4X4. What is the capacity of the transfer case roughly? 3 litres or 4? I wanna buy the amsoil ATF before draining old stuff so i wanna know b4 hand. Thanks......PS which plug is to drain i see 2 that could possibly be drains?

buy 4 qts, they usually take 3 plus. the drain and fill plugs are on the rear of the case left side, the drain is the one at the bottom. the fill plug is above it half way up. fill it till it runs out then plug it.

Thanks for the info. A few weeks ago, I upgraded to an ATS and had filled it with Amsoil ATF. After further thought, I decided to also replace the transfer fluid with Amsoil soon. Timing was right on seeing this post !!

I was just looking at the Amsoil online application guide. It shows the capacity of a few different transfer cases, and they hold either 3.4 or 4.0 pints. So it seems to me that 2 quarts would be adequate.

if the transfer heald 4 liters that thing would be HUGE!!!!!!

4 pints is all you need. . .2 quarts

Sounds about right, I decided to drain the transfer case and make sure to have enough on hand to fill to the overflow line.
