Default regenerating

The mechanic at the stealership tried all day yesterday to get my truck to regenerate. after no success this morning he emailed dodge for some info. dodge sent him a complete knew program for the dpf which he put on my truck and then drove it and it regenerated for the first time on its own so maybe problem solve.

My truck had a PCM Flash installed the day before I bought it. Is this what you got?

Code:
Flash PCM 55350105AT

There should be a sticker on the front of the engine compartment near the radiator telling you when and what PCM Flash was installed.

Receipt says
PREFORMED TSB 183307 REPROGRAMED ECM TEST DROVE 45 MIN RAN REGENERATION
so what ever that means I'm a pipe fitter not a mechanic although I have learned alot from this forum

Regeneration is the process the 6.7L Cummins uses to clean out the diesel particulate filter.

drew and jake can answer that a lot better than I can. from what i understand it collects pollutants in the catalyst and burns them creating fewer emissions but mine wasn't burning so it was clogging the catalyst

There is a filter in the exhaust on the new 6.7l called a DPF. As the engine is running, one of the by products of it is soot. The filter, which is a cermamic material collects the soot. When that filter gets plugged up enough, the ecm goes into regeneration. Basically it messes with timing, fuel dosing and air management to heat up the dpf. Heat in the dpf causes the soot to burn. What is left over is ash from burning the soot. This cannot be removed and evnetually the dpf will fill up with ash. The dpf will need removed and put in a cleaning tool to get the ash out. Not sure on the mileage for dodge, but otr's are about 150,000 miles for dpf cleaning.

Clear as mud?[sm=smiley20.gif]
