My brother removed his silencer ring because he was told it improve mileage and get more power. Does it do that or is it just to make it sound better?

All it does is reduce some of the whistle, nothing else.

I took mine off, didnt even notice a difference in sound

I think it has to do with the baffles in your airbox. I dunno, I don't have the same year as you, but I've heard others mention removing baffles.

I took my baffles out after I installed the CIA. turbo really screams once you do that
