problem with my inj pump need 2nd opinion
I have a 00 3500 dually, 5 spd, 4wd 122,000 miles, started with a hiccup at idle, had a code for crankshaft position sensor P0336, replaced it now no hiccup but tach will quit when rpm reaches between 1800 and 2200, after shift and rpm's get below 1800 will start working again. I cleared the codes drove it 2miles and had eng light again, P0336 came back and P1690 showed up then last night had P1693 also.
Other problem is a inj pump code P1690. coming home last night on the highway boost press. would only get to approx 12psi, but will occasionaly build to 18psi but then after shift go back to low press.
had one tech say to replace inj pump but before I spend $1000.00 on a pump could it be another sensor causing problems or maybe even the ecm?

I'm not an expert on 2nd Gen, but you may want to consider replacing the lift pump ($$) first. It seems that the stock lift pumps are a weak point. As I understand it, a failing lift pump will cause the injection pump to fail eventually ($$$$). I'd start with the lift pump. Several in here have done this mod.

i would defintly replace the lift pump first. yours is probably on the side of the block. i have a 01 2500 with the cummins in it and about 5 months ago my injection pump went out because of mt transfer or lift pump going out. there is the company in orlando florida called diesel specialists (www.dieselspecialists.net) they sell a warning light kit that plugs into your injection pump. when your transfer pump goes out the lioght will turn on so you don't have to replace the $1100 injection pump. and one more suggestion is not to take it to the dealer and let them talk you into moving your transfer for the side of the block to in the gas tank. its a weaker system. i made that mistake and it cost me over $1000 to let them do it and i still had to tow my truck out of there so i could replace the injection pump myself

Alright I will try the lift pump first, I also was talking to a friend of mine and he had what seemed to be the same problem....he had a bad cell in a battery (go figure) so, along with the pump she is getting new batteries today, hopefully this will cure the issue, thanks for the help
