and while your at it, rough up the disk (lightly sand it) again and make sure there are no burnt area's. I would also recommend roughing up the flywheel a little so the clutch & flywheel seat ok when they're back together...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there an alignment tool that needs to be used when you reinstall a manual trans. If something is not aligned properly I could see that hanging the clutch and not letting it engauge right. Since this problem showed up after you had the trans out I would almost bet something like that is going on. I woulld tear it down and check it all out again if it was me. Just a thought. Let us know what you find.

I never loosened the bolts on the pressure plate so I didn't think I had to torque them. I didn't touch any of the stuff on the clutch, just unbolted the transmission and pulled it out. Do I still have to torque them even if I didn't loosen them? And Jake the splines looked pristine.

Well, the only thing left is the clutch then. Sounds like that heavy SOB trans has to come out again.

Sweet, that's what I was afraid of. I just wish it would have done it a week earlier.

Would have been easier with the trans already out huh. Other than that, how you liking the southbend? I'm thinking of getting one when I do the swap. I put one in my buddies ford, he hasn't had anyproblems or complaints. I haven't driven it since so I don't know anything about it.

The clutch was great...a week ago, but in all honesty. It was a good clutch, engagement was smooth, pedal pressure was good, and it seemed to hold the power well. Without a chip the truck tipped the scales just shy of 800 ft lbs at the wheels with an altitude correction factor in there (7200 ft). I had a TST powermax competition box, which is supposedly a 450 ft lb box and now I have an Edge w/attitude in there and I'm back close to sea level. It was pretty short lived (50K) in my opinion but I don't know how the clutch was treated before I got the truck, so maybe the previous owner was hard on it. My old truck that had been in the family since it was new made it to 22 years on the same clutch, I'm not sure how many times the odometer rolled over back to "new" (only went to 99,999 miles) I know it was at least once since I got it, and it was back up to 50K when it got retired.

So recommendations on a replacement?

ORIGINAL: Mayfair

What? My diagnosis techniques amuse you? Just because I disconnected my clutch and took the truck for a test drive with no clutch...

SBC is about the best you can get. . .Ive heard of others like LUK that do pretty well, but when it comes to making big power, SBC is pretty much the way to go.
