Default 97 to 03

just sold my old 97 and got a 03 dullay. looking for some help on what mods i can run on this thing. i have played with the pumps on the older trucks but i am not up to speed on these comp. models yet. i drove a buddys 03 with a banks six gun on it and loved the way i could adjust the power. what chips or programmers is out there that is the best for the buck. how does the six gun compare to the others. i have read about stacking different things together. i will be pulling a 3 horse trailer with living quaters. i want some more power with killing my milage. i hear that the chips or programmer can bump up the milage too.

Well, first of all JakeBrake is gonna love having another "training wheels" owner around here... wontcha Jake

Does the truck have a 6 speed or Automatic? An Auto will limit how much power your drivetrain can handle without upgrades. Do you want something adjustable? The Edge with Attitude and TST products are popular. Ifyou want just a basic HP bump and arent looking to race everything in site like Sharx does, the Quadzilla stuff is good..

I'll let the other folks chime in now.

P.S. Welcome aboard

Edge Juice with Attitude monitor, Bullydog downloader also has a monitor, TST also has a monitor... these you can adjust power on the fly and have built in safety parameters for boost & excessive egt's. they are worth the look.

banks is good. . .however you can piece together a setup that will give more power for less money. I dyno'd my truck(TST) agains a similar truck with a banks w/speed loader, both on level 6 I made around 10 more horse and my clutch was slipping the whole way. BTW, I still have three more power settings that I didnt use

I like the smarty for programmers, and for boxes I like the TST. it is a pure timeing duration box and does not raise the rail pressure. however you can get a TST box that you can adjust the rail pressure with and make some insane power.

these electronic trucks are a far difference beast compared to your old P7100 driven truck.

Shampoo-

I have an early 04 which has the same motor as you. I have both the Quadzilla XZT and the TST. I ran the XZT for2000-3000 miles and really liked it. It is a 65hp/165ft/tq module that takes 5 min to plug in. There is no monitor or adjustments, just plug in and go. I noticeda better than expectedpower increase across the whole RPM range and a consistent 2.5-3 mpg hand calculated gain. With mostly highway driving, I noticed a 4mpg increase. I have since taken that out (it's for sale - shameless plug) and put in the TST. The power and smoke you can get from the TSTis absolutly crazy. I am probably going to take that out and sell it also, I have an auto and would rather put the money into the tranny before I continue to play with it. Racing people is way to much fun. With the TST, I noticed about a 1 mpg loss from the quadzilla, but still 2 mpg better than stock.

Edge is another very poplular choice. I am sure others will chime in about theirs.

Good luck

Here is TST's website
http://www.tstproducts.com/

New, they are about $900.00 and all the way turned up (assuming your truck can handle it) add 195hp and 600tq. This is rear wheel measurements according to their dyno sheet. They are adjustable in the cab with a push of a button, which is awesome for playing. Bump it up quick, whoop their a$$, then turn it back down.

Installation is a snap, it's all plug and play, no splicing of wires or anything. The only thing is you will need todrill and tap your manifold for yourEGTprobe. I did it on mine and it's not as scary as it sounds.

Where about's are you located?

If you are interested in a used one at all, PM me and we can talk about mine.

you can hit up TST's website at http://www.tstproducts.com , however I would also check out http://www.dieselnutmotorsports.com as well. he's a member here, but doesnt drop in much. he's done work for Steve so if you need a referal I'm sure he would let you know.

I got mine for $650, but then again I got it second hand and knew the guy I bought it off of.

either the R49 or the R37. I have the R37 and am VERY impressed with the power increase. I have been tossing the idea around of having it flashed to the R49 lately.

I was in Des Moines back in Feb, definately a huge difference in weather when compared to Hotlanta GA
