Default Post turbo temps

What are safe post turbo temps? I towed about 8K yesterday and they got up to around 900-950 at 18-1900 rpm according to the edge.

Hey GTX, I have a pre and post turbo gauges. ( Isspro and Attitude) The Isspro pre turbo pyrometer is installed on the top of my exhaust manifold, while the Attitude post turbo pyrometer is installed in the pacbrake. I"ve seen 150 to 200 degree differences between the two. I was told not to let the Isspro exhast manifold temp exceed 1350 degrees. Given that information, I would estimate the post turbo temp not to exceed 1100 to 1150 degrees. Certainly there are those here that could weigh in a more difined answer to you question. But for the here and now, that's my two cents.

Thanks, I have heard there's as much as 400 degrees difference in pre and post turbo temps. Mine is post turbo. I'm doing a 3600 mile plus road trip next 2 weeks and wanted to be safe. There's some pretty good pulls on I-80 in Utah and Wyoming!

Yup, I agree on all those issues. We're leaving on the 25th heading to Yellowstone, yanking on around 17,000 plus lbs. No doubt I'll be watching my gauges very hard. Nice thing about the Attitude's limits that can be set. I need to double check my egt setting. Good luck on your trip, I think I remember that you said you're going to Yellowstone also. We will be there Aug 1stthru the 8th. Just might see ya there, if not watch the bison, I heard that they do not have a sense of humor!

To be safe I would't go past 900* post turbo for long period of sustain time.

If you got a reading of 900 on your post turbo gauge, that would mean that you are running about 1200 - 1300 PRE- turbo right?

Correct or you will be in the ballpark give or take. I just wouldn't go up a 6% grade towing for 8 miles running over 1250* pre turbo constantly. Do it enough times you will start having problems. I know you can go short burst 1,400-1,500*, but would not stay there long (few seconds). So I would say 900*/950* max and I would stay under for constant egt reading especially towing.

I have heard the difference between post and pre can be as much as 200* to 800*.

800 degree difference ???

That sounds pretty excessive. At least i hope it is. Everyday driving for me I seem to hang aroung the 600 deree mark. I can't wait to see what it says when i tow again.

Hey Mayfair, Havn't seen ya this weekend, hope ya had a good one. Yes, 800 degree's is very excessive. I took note of the differences on my truck just crusin around, and it was less that 150 degrees, and at times not far from 50 degrees. The real test will be when I strap on to the 5'ver this weekend. I'll be picking it up from the storage shed to bring it home to get ready for the upcoming trip. I'll let ya know what I see.
