Default Silencer Ring Questions

I have an 2007 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L CTD in it. I've seen various topics about removing silencer rings on the turbos. How hard is it actually to do this? Is it more aggravation than it's worth? Which side of the turbo is it on? Does it hurt the turbo to remove it?

It is very simple to remove. Should only take about 10 min. You pull off the inlet pipe to the turbo and just pull the snapring and the silencer ring out, then put the inlet pipe back on. Won't hurt the turbo at all, dodge just put them on there to quite it down.

If you intend on ever changing out your air filter, box and or inlet pipe, some brands will give you all the noise you might want. My ring is still intact and I went from stock to an AFE Stage II and found that the turbo definately howles now. The filter is not in an totally enclosed box, so the sound is allowed to wonder out and about. Just a thought.

Even if you do take out the ring and don't end up liking the sound you can always press it back into the turbo. Changing the intake will also make the turbo whistle more as it draws in more air.

I pulled mine out (07 5.9L) like a week ago. It gave me a little trouble. I used the flat blade screwdriver and pried the snap ring out. It took maybe about 15 minutes to get the snap ring out. It felt like it wasn't gonna budge at all the whole time, and then all of a sudden it came right out. I think what got it out for me was putting the screw driver behind the snap ring and then twisting the screw driver to pry it out, opposed prying it out by pushing the screw driver against the side of the turbo. hope this helps.

I have a 2002 2500 cummins and want the turbo to be a little louder. Is there a turbo silencer ring on my truck that I can remove my self with not a lot of hassle?

let me know something!
