Steering Shaft Lube Job
Hey Guys, I've followed Drew's thread on the lubrication areas, but have found difficulty in figuring out how to get a grease gun fitting on the zerk on the lower steering shaft union above the steering box. It's a very tight area to work around and all that I can imagine doing is either dissassembling the u-joint to hit the fitting, or if a small enough gun fitting is out there on the market to purchase for this job. Any ideas or suggestons on this matter. Thanks compadree's...........
Come on...........hasn't anyone every been thru this? There has got to bea correct way to grease that fitting without diss-assembling the steering shaft. Any opinions out there? Anywhere?
Hey Bigriver I have missed this fitting but I will take a look at it tonight and get back to you. Hopefully I can lube it with some of the grease fitting adapters that I have at work. I will let you know if I find one that works. Thanks for the post.
Hey Lesimon, no, thank you for answering this thread. I was wondering if I was jinxed of something? All that I can imagine is a very small 90 degree adapter head on the end of a grease gun to fit in the allowable space. I'm hoping that Drew will see this thread and chime in. He has the DYS thread at the top describing all the fittings to lube. Certainly he's crossed this road before.
Just got back from camping and saw this. I did not know their was a place to grease on the steering shaft or is it just on the 3500's that has this grease point? I guess when I go in to town in the next day or so I can try to ask Dodge about it.
humm, I'm not familiar with that one... this is the only one I found in Drews thread....

I have an 06' Megacab and just follow the instructions in the aforementioned thread. I use a needle-nose adapter (bought from Napa Autoparts)on the end of my grease gun. The easiest way I found was to lift the left-front wheel off the ground, get under the truck and rotate the tire, the shaft will spin and look for the little hole.
In the beginning, I went to the dealer who put my truck on the lift and they said I didn't have one (I was standing there) After reading about it here, I got under the truck myself and eventually found the lube point....
It's there.....
