Default 4X4 SERVICE ?

Great Forum. I have enjoyed reading these post a great deal. What does everyone do for the 4x4 service? Dodge calls for every 15,000 miles at a cost of $300.00. The truck is a 2007 3500 5.9 auto quad cab dually. Thank you for your reply in advance.

4x4 service as in transfer case and front diff? or front and rear diff's? you shoudln't have to worry about your front and rear diff's. Not sure what your truck takes buy my transfer case takes atf +4 cheapast fluid i had to buy on my truck. Was real easy. Just needed to find a big allan wrench, bestbet is find one that attaches to like a 3/8's drive ratchet or 1/2' drive ratchet. Your auto parts store should have one. then open up your transfer case. two plugs fill and drain. I'd imagine if you were going to do your diff you'd have to pop the cover open due to the fact that mine doesn't have a drain plug. But you wont have to take it completely off just pop a few of the bolts out (bottom bolts) and loosen some of the top ones. Then tighten everything back up and fill back up. I'd imagine if you were going to do the front diff and the transfer case it'd cost you about 50-60 dollars and couple hours of your time.

welcome to the forum. Change the diff fluids and the transfer case. spend a little extra on fluids and remove the diff pans clean well, use rtv as a new gasket. go to the diy and there is a section on it I believe.

Hey I was told you need a special rtv sealant and so far it's proving correct since you're post to use synthetic gear oil in diffs. Just a heads up. Hey Jimmy, quick question? Why change diff fluids at 15 k? Just interesting that they're from my knwledge (which isn't alot) should have lasted until about 80-100 k

That is what dodge requires. I am sure you can go longer if you want especially if you use a good fluid like royal purple or amsoil I hear mobile 1 is good as well. I know on the 1500 rams those are real weak links and really need the service. If you off road or tow the diffs heat up tremendously causing fluid breakdown.

on '03 and up trucks there is no need RTV. the AAM axels have a reusable rubber gasket. for the axels you just need about 2 gallons of fluid in the 75W90 synthetic flavor with no friction modifiers, that includes LSD's.

if you have an 02 or previous truck you will need RTV for the Dana axels, about the same amount of fluid and 8oz of friction modifier if you have an LSD.

for the transfer just grab your favorate ATF, about 4 pints worth(2 quarts)
