thats pretty expensive for an aftermarket gasket, i just had mine done about a month ago the dealer charges me 62.95 for the gasket
the part number on the work order is 5016356AB. i have had felpro gaskets be very expensive in the past. this is probably another one.
it used to be the dealer was always more expensive, now i check almost everything and i am finding more parts priced competitivly. (i think i spelled that wrong)

bad story went good....dad talked to the dealer and the manager talked to me...they completely refunded every bit of the bill we paid including the fuel presure test because, the lady had never worked on a diesel and didnt know what in the world she was talking about and was suppost to only charge 39.00 on the brakes instead of the price she charged me.....soo therefore it ended up good with about 7 hours of my time in this am....but also a free fuel pressure test...
glad to here it !
ok litterally just taked to my service guy at dodge as I am on here. he says REUSE the valve cover gasket..unless it leaks...even their price was $125 retail...
dodge says to adjust valves at this milage..
100,000miles adjust 12v cummins
150,000miles adjust 24v cummins.

Brakes harder then valve lash!? In my experience .... due to road conditions or at least I hadcontributed it to road conditions. After less then 30k miles I had replaced front rotors and rears twice, I then found the "brake guards" installed them on rears. I was replaceing rear pads about every 10k km/6k miles. Then it dawned on me... the bloody caliper bolts and bushins were sticky and causing the brakes to drag!! Found the rubber seals on caliper bolts/bushings were shredded allowing water dirt to get in!! Ordered up new bushing kits w/rubber seals installed then and when I do my oil changes/lube I now add some lube inside the rubber seals, so far have gone 25k km without any problems. Stealer was charging over $300 cdn for a set of rotors found them at a Auto part store for half the price. Since DC makes originals fairly close to throw away tolerences, having them resurfaced is out of the question.
So I guess lesson learned is check those rubber seals, bolts and bushings ( they should slide in and out effortlessly)on the calipers for longer brake life.

i dont plan on changingthe gasket unless it is in bad shape...soo...we will see..as far as doing it my self..im am still considering...dont know much about the inside of a cummins and the last thing i want to do is mess it up..i can print out and clearly read the DIY thread but stilll...never know..
