As far as I know it can't be done without a reprogram and dealerships won't disable these kind of saftey features.

My dads 04 never did it until he had it at the dealer when his injector pump went out. They said it was a safety recall. Stupid.

Get a 6.7L with 6-speed auto. No honking in reverse!

You might try running a simple switch that interrupts the power to the horn. This way when you're going to be backing up with your door open, flip the switch so no power goes to the horn. It would be basically the same as disconnecting it. I haven't looked into this more than just thinking about it so there may be more to it than just that.

Yes I think the 03 and up with the safty recall, 05's or 06and up came from the factorywith that feature. . They honkin reverse with thedooropen as well as when you have a trailer and its pluged in.

Hmmm...mine never honked when backing with my trailer hooked up. It sure made me jump the first time it happened tho! I still laugh to myself about it. It's definately a "feature" I could do without.

Yes it is Stupid, it would seem a simple system to disengage or modify. It is on my list of things to work on for my truck if I cant get the dealer to turn it off, (which I am not very hopeful for).
That "safety feature" is real nice when you are getting hooked to a trailer. especially early morning, in an RV park.... if the Cummins wasnt loud enough, the horn will surely wake them up!!!
