Default I might have a problem here.

I took my truck out saturday night and I was a little ruff on it.
I put the comp on level 5 and did a little tug-o-war w/ a Ferd.
He put up a good fight for a turd.
I pulled him and another Dodge 3/4 w/ a 360.
After that I came home to sleep off all the keg beer I drank. So when I got up today
I went to start my truck up go get breakfeast/dinner.
I had no oil pressure. I was like no way? what the crap ?
The motor sounded like normal ,but no pressure on the gauge.
So I shut it off , waited a few minutes and refired it ,
and I saw the needle wiggle , so I revved it and the gauged jumped back up.
So what am I lookin at here? Is it the sending unit? Is it dirt or thin oil?
I think I'm going to change the oil right away .

you don't have oil in your radiator do you ? Did you check the oil level on the stick before you changed it? can you do the gauge diagnostic on your truck? hope it's something simple.

I Didn't check the rad.
But the oil was full .
The oil and filterhad only 1500 miles on it.
I'm thinking dirt or sending unit.
I cut the filter open like I always doand found it a little dirtier than the last time .
May be it had some gunk build up and when I was pullin it worked it up.
What's a really good filter to put on?
I want something to in there to make sure no more crap is getting past.

I ran out and checked the rad .
No oil in there just anti-freeze and water.
I tell ya what this bugs me a little.
I listened to engine run and it sounds fine and the gauge is showing pressure.
Is there a chance the oil pump is going out?

I don't think you'll find a better filter recommended for our truckcs than this....

I 'll look into one of those fleet gaurds.
I put a NAPA gold on this time.
The old one was a purolator.

I suppose that's possible. You really shouldn't have had dirt in your oil though. One way to check your pump would be to pull the oil line from the turbo and put it in a jug. I forget exactly but, it should fill the jug within so many seconds. If you have good pressure and flow there, it may be something else.
I'd look for the easiest problem first though... bad sender, wiring connections..etc.

A good by-pass filter wouldn't be a bad idea either. Clean oil is the life blood of a diesel.

I wonder if I can put a mechanical gauge there and get a real reading?
Well I'll drive it into work tonight and see what it does .
If it starts loosen pressure I'm comin right back home .
