really? this guy acted like it was great!. he told me sittin still and reaving the engine one might see 5. he said the 9 was PSI but he said another number.....I thought he said 131....it could have been 31though. what would this number be? He said the (131 or 31) first and then converted it to 9psi.

just sitting revving the engine isn't going to show anything unless you get the rpm's up enough to spool the turbo. I suppose he could have seen 9 doing that but, that doesn't mean anything. Cruising at 55mph using CC, you would see 9 to 12.
If you are getting onto a freeway merging into traffic, you might step on the peddle pretty good. If you had a boost gauge you'd see it get up to 30/35 real quick.

What kind of vacuum do these engines pull?
I'm trying to decide on what guage to get and I want to make sure I get one that will read high enough boost and still read vacuum.
Edit: Well after asking I decided to look it up. It appears that these engines produce no vacuum. What a noobie!!!
From every.cummins.com-
"Unlike gasoline engines, diesel engines produce no vacuum when you release the throttle to help slow the vehicle. The higher compression ratio of the diesel acts like a spring on the pistons, even with no fueling."

LOL.. 9 might be impressive in a Neon but not in your truck. You should see 30 to 35 pounds of boost on a stock turbo.
