Your going to loose power and mileage with USLD. It's like octane in gas = to the Sulfur in Diesel. So the more they take out the more you loose. Just thought I'd throw that in. Hence part of the reason tractor diesel is illeagle. Plus oil for your furnace is pretty much the same. When I was in high school I ran some to get back and forth from school Siphoned it out of our big tank. But anyways back to the point. Tractors need more torque and such to get the job done so they run red diesel which has more sulpher I believe construction equipment runs the same. And also it's illeagle because it's not taxed. Anyways. Basically like i stated before rolls down to octane in gas is = to sulfur in diesel.

I'm going to mke up a stamping die to make a mesh screen to go in the bottom of the filler neck to keep syphon hoses and pestyDOT probes out of my tank 4mpg is a 20% loss in mileage.

Yeah just becareful if you get caught after they finally ban it. I mean red diesel is banned I think it's a 10 k fine if your caught and the die stays in your tank for a while also it goesthrough your filter housing so you'd have to find a way to hide that.. I don't know if anyone has noticed but they die all diesel. I think they're starting to die gasonline too. Got a little bit of gas the other day and it was red I was like wtf! But anyways I think it's red then blue then now they're on green diesel I believe if i'm correct. What do they do if they run out of colors! Umm.. RAINBOW! Honostly though I'd run like vegtiable oil through your truck. It's cheap, if not free. Got a filter. Start on diesel warm up the engine switch to oil. Mileage is similar to red diesel. Hmmm... Bright idea. "Oh our enviroment bla bla bla" Vegitalbe oil = no problems with enviroment + good mileage + good power output = broke gas company's = no more gas monopoly. Wait that's why they havn't done it yet.

They can try to stick a probe down your filler neck but to take anything apart or remove filters they better have a warrent and pay to have it done at a stealership buy cerified CTD tech.

I really doubt you have been able to find LSD at the pump anywhere outside of Alaska. Even off road red diesel is mostly ULSD. Can you name the station location that you were able to purchase LSD at for your truck???

ULSD only affects the lubricity of the fuel and that can be easily recovered by the addition of a quart of 2 stroke oil per tank.

The color of the diesel has nothing to do with sulfur content. It just indicates that no taxes were paid. The fuel distributor where I buy all of my red diesel said that everything he sells now is ULSD, even the red stuff.

This is what I found on a web page :

FUEL ECONOMY. Unfortunately, ULSD will contain 1 percent to 2 percent less energy. The refining process that removes the sulfur also removes high-energy “aromatics†and may make the fuel slightly less dense, Leonardi-Cattolica says. This means a corresponding 1 percent to 2 percent increase in fuel consumption.
However, a 4 MPG decrease in fuel mileage seems like a lot. I have yet to use ULSD. There's a station near me that sells both and I always purchase the LSD fuel instead.

I can get LSD here in GA. . .there are a few stations that still carry it.

also if you look at it close enough, you will see that LSD has a greenish/yellowish tint to it in the foam. USLD foam is just about clear.

Just an FYI....octane does not add power to a gas engine. The sole purpose of increasing octane is to avoid knock in higher compression ratios. If you increase compression, you have to increase octane, but other than that it does not increase power output from the engine.

Alcohol dragsters are the ultimate example. They run the alcohol because because it has incredibly high octane for the very high compression ratios the engines run. The downside, alcohol has a much lower power output in comparison to nitro, or even gasoline in equivalent quantities, so alcohol cars have to pump huge amounts of the fuel through the engine to get the power output from the compression increase.
