Give Dave Goerenda call and tell him what you plan on doing with the truck and he will tell you what you need to get done to the tranny and he also has a darn good warrenty.

just like firemansdodge said call all the big names in diesel trannies and get prices and recomendations, also find out their warrenty. I can garuntee that Dave will have the best price and the best warrenty. I had a DTT TC in my old truck and it went out on me (too much power), so I called Dave up and got me a single disc and it was alot better than the other one.

I know Allisons are tough when it comes to a medium duty truck tranny, but I have heard that the Duramax/Allison combo has had some trouble. My uncle is the parts and service administrator at a Chevy dealer and he said the trucks with performance chips in them usually have transmission problems. I believe he said if 5th gear is worn out, the truck has or has had a chip in it. My brother is currently looking at his options for transmissions for his 2002 CTD. Not sure if he needs a reman or just beef up the vb and reprogram the computer, but he needs something. I've got his problem posted on here under the title "Tranny problem."

Well we opened it up and found the problem. I wish I could remember what the guy called it- or even had a pic so I could show you the broken part. I don't know a lot about auto transmissions so I have to take his word for it on what he believes happened. He said more than likely it was shifted fromdrive to reverse before the rpms were allowed to come down. The is a plate with a tube, that one of the shafts runs through, and the tube snapped off the plate- hence the thump noise. Other than that the tranny looked pretty clean.

Since I will not be making a ton of power, it's used for a little off roading & towing a 3500lb boat, we aren't going to do any serious parts upgrades. Damn auto trannies!

I do appreciate all the input and company names. If I get serious into the offroad game and blow this one apart, I'll look at big upgrades form one of them!

If you want to look at more options, at least check out the ATS line. You can more or less customize your choice of tranmisson. You get what you pay for when it come this issue.
