Default New tranny time.

Sitting at the red light the other day and my truck makes a clunk, then won't go. Slip it down into 2, same thing. Go down again, into 1, and it shimmies like a standard when you're learning do drive it.
Took it to the first shop today and they say it is mechanical, not computer. Going to take it to another shop for a 2nd opinion before I spend $1400+ on a tranny.

So, what do you guys think of this one, sans the lack of proper english and punctuation?

Personally I'd get mine rebuilt by someone local, or at least close by. With buying a tranny like the one on Ebayyou're not getting any warranty on parts or labor. So if it goes out in the near future you're SOL and have to start over again. That and if you can find what you want in it for parts the tranny shop should be able to get them and put them in for you and should give you at least a short warranty.

If your going to spend hard earned money then by one from one of the best rebuilders, Dave Goerend, http://www.goerend.com/ Yes it will cost more then $1400.00, but he is one darn good guy to work with and will not sell you something you don't need.

I've heard goerend is very exclusive with who he builds trannies for. I believe he gave Triton a hard time about building a tranny because Triton wasn't spending as much money as what goerend wanted to work with. and we all can tell triton isn't exaclty a cheap guy either sooo that to me makes me think Goerend would be a bad choice.

If your going to replace your tranny, dont waist your money on rebuilding it. I'd break down put an Allison behind it. With the cummins and allison tranny combo, the damn truck would be indestructible. Just my personal opinion.

I am having a friend rebuild mine locally for around 500 - 800. Nothing big, nothing massive, and wont hold up to 800 hp. But it will last longer then if i didnt with a chip..

I'ver been hearing bad things about those allison trannies as well nowadays. sharx ram i blieve posted something in a thread earlier about the chevy boys are havin issues with the allison now too. Give ATS a call and see what they can do for ya.

I think their is more to the story then he was not spending enough money. I do now he will not put a half a$$ transmissions with is name on it behind a big powered engine being he built his name on the transmissions that are built in his shop.

Different builder than who you mentioned. Goerend Bros. has one of the best reps in the business.

You need to call around (DTT, BD Diesel, Suncoast, Goerend Bros., HTT). The price quoted above for a rebuilt is as much as my TC I paid for. To good to be true. Sorry to rain on your parade on this one.You need to know what exactly is wrong w/ your tranny before pricing a new tranny. You may just need to upgrade certain parts.
