Default Genuine Mopar Parts (that suck)

After having a very bad experience with Rhino Liners with my pervious Ram. I decided to not go with a spray in liner yet. I still wanted to protect my bed and bed rails though. I first purchased a rubber mat for the bed floor and then set out to find bed rail protectors.I looked at all the after market stuff but then thought 'ya know... this time I'm going to go with genuine parts so they really match my truck right'. Bad idea! The Mopar bed rail protectors and thin and flimsy with distinct injection molding marks and uneven textures. For $81.00 they are a complete ripoff andI can't wait to get them off my truck. I also ordered the tailgate protector which arrived warped and very flexible. Add some sun and it turns to the consistancy of soft rubber. The texture does not match the bed rails at all. The plastic was scratching the paint the first day it was on soI had to order a new tailgate cap but the texture and gloss still doesn't match at all.

Whats wrong with Mopar?!!?! Ford and Chevy have very nice rail protection from the factory. Does Mopar not think their trucks will be used as "trucks"? I'm just thuroughly pissed off at Mopar right now and wishI had put that $120.00 towards a good set of Bushwackers or a Line-x [sm=rant.gif]

I've got a bed liner from Dodge in my truck and I agree with you 100%. What a POS !! The one I had in my Ford was awesome. I'd love to have the same one in my Dodge.

On another note ...

I have thick rubber mats in the back of my truck typically used as the floor mats in horse trailers. They're AWESOME, and hold up really well!!!

Yeah..thats whatI went with in mine.. close to 1/2" thick rubber. I had to cut out for the fifth wheel plate rails so it would lay flat on the rails not allowing debri to get undet the mat. I thinkI will still go with a spray in at some point when the sides get scratched up. But for now it's working out nice.

What I do like about the Mopar rail protectors is that the louvers(sp) match the front and rear bumber.. other than that.. I almost lose sleep knowing that crap is stuck to my truck!

I went with the thick rubber mat too. I like it much better than a conventional bedliner because my stuff doesn't slide all over the rear end. The horse trailer that I bought last year has the spray in liner material all over the hitch and the underneith side that hangs over your truck bed and I really like it. I was thinking about getting a spray in liner but I'm affraid the heat from the black liner will heat up the fuel tank I've got in the back. Which is great for winter, but not so great for summer. i can only fill the tank about 90% in the summer to allow for fuel expansion.

You can get almost any color on a spary in bed liner. They are all not black. Looked at a 04 RC 1500 that was green in color the bedliner was almost a perfect match. I think it was a line x. You can do the the bed rails in it also or the whole truck. https://dodgeforum.com/m_860967/tm.htm

Keep in mind that even if they say they can patch it.. it will never match or look the same (at least with Rhino) the sun fades it very fast.. when they go 'over the rails' it's like pin striping.. it can be uneven if they aren't careful.. and the rails look dull and faded within months... they typically spray the tailgate in the down position which (on mine) caused there to be a thick build up on the bottom because of gravity (a quater inch in places where it ran).. when the tech pulled the trim wire (which cuts the liner leaving a nice straight edge) he pulled up instead of out.. gouging the liner for about 8 inches.. WhenI questioned the bad appearance the owner said to me..andI quote "wellI don't know what else we could do but AIR CHISEL it off and try to respray it cause ya can't patch this stuff"I figured an idiot that would want to take an air chisel to my tailgate wasn't going to get the chance to screw up worse.. even though before it was appliedI was told it could be patched at anytime.... these are the reasons whyI have yet to consider another spray in liner.. I think Line-X is a harder more glossy product that might resist fading better.. but it also will allow things to slide around int he bed easier... I'm still on the fense

Personally I'm not a big fan of the spray on liners. I don't know why, I just prefer a good plastic one for some reason.

Holy crap, I was getting ready to start a new thread about my $hitty mopar bed caps! The quality wasnt a big complaint really but the damn things wont stay on. I noticed at first one side on the back was popping up, then the front, then the other side in the back. I checked thinking oh, I must not have prepped the truck right and noticed that the tape was stuck to the truck just fine, it was coming off the plastic. I spent an additional $18 on body moulding tapeand the same thing is happening again!

If you think the fit and function of the rail caps suck, try the Mopar Nerf bars, I realize they are made by someone else, but they fit like crap, and the way they sit on the truck makes them almost useless.

The ones I bought were the Oval wheel to wheel ones for a quad cab, they spent less than 24 hours on the truck...I drove to the dealer with them on and showed them the "quality fit and function", the guy said "if you dont like them I guess I have no choice but to give you your money back". I took him up on the offer!
