Default Engine Brake

Just wants some input on a engine brake. Plan on doing some travel trailer towing with my 5.9 2007. Looking for different manufacturers and types (install too). Also are those exhaust brakes worth it?

Yes they are worth every dollar. I got my brake put on by the dealer. It was $1500.0 all together. It has a 3/36 warranty. It is made by Jacobs and is the only one Cummings will warranty on there engine. The dealer made the order for me and it came in a Cummings box. I also got it for pulling my 5th wheel camper. Boy did it help in the mountains. I'm at work and do not have the paper work with me but I believe it gives you 175 brake horsepower. I like it!!!!!!!!!!

I have a pac-brake. I will never go without an engine brake again. It is worth every penny you spend. It will actually save you money because it saves your brake pads and rotors on your truck AND vehicle you are towing.

Hey thanks! I have driven over the road tractors with a engine brake before and they were the best thing since sliced bread. I will probably install myself since it looks fairly easy.

JJ, Fairly easy. I do not now about that. It is a lot more to it than meets the eye. For me it was. Between the vacuum pump install and the wiring I just let Dodge dealer do it for $500.00. That way even the install was under a warranty. During the install they messed the gasket that went between the brake and exhaust up. Of course this is not a stock item. So they had to overnight it in. So if you do install it be careful.

I love my pac brake. I use it even when I'm empty and just driving around town.

It is easy to do. On my 01, I just had to remove the elbow between the turbo and exhaust, bolt in the new elbow, then run the vacuum lines and wire it to the ECM and run the switch into the cab. That's it. The hardest part was getting to the bolts on the elbow because of the weird angle.
