Another Ford Died this Weekend
Ok I get to bash Ford and Chevy for a while, I think I've earned it.
Another Ford F450 with a 6.0 died this weekend at one of my shooting competitions. Would not start, had to haul it off to the dealer. Seems like its about one a week now. Can't rememebr the last time a Dodge died.
The one before this one was a joke. We were at a shoot and it also would not start. The F350 with 6.0 was a 2005 with 110k on it and the driver said he had never changed the fuel filter (he assumed the quick lube place changed it). One of the other Ford drivers had an extra fuel filter. So an hour later after they changed the fuel filter, (I'm just sitting back and watching the entertainment) it still would not start. One of the guys figured if the fuel filter had not been changed, the air filter probably had not been changed either. They were right. This guy had an inch of dirt piled up on top of the K&N filter. I was surprised the truck ran at all. They cleaned it off and put it back in and still, no start. They came over and asked me what I thought was wrong and I told them I knew nothing of the Ford engines because I had a Dodge with a Cummins. The guy then has the nerve to start saying little phrases like, "If it weren't for Dodges, there would be no garages". I replied with, "At least mine starts MF!"
I figured that they got air in the line when they changed the fuel filter. So after 3 hours of watching the 3 stooges work on a Ford, I noticed they had pulled the entire cold air intake out and were trying to start it with nothing hooked up to the intake side of the turbo. I pulled out the can of starting fluid that I keep in my trailer for the generator and walked over and sprayed it in the turbo intake and told him to fire it up. He did, and guess what, it started. He later came over and apologized for the Dodge remark and was thankfull for finally getting it started.
Now it's Chevy time. I especially liked blowing the doors off of the $60k Duramax that was being showed off by the new owner this weekend. This was one of the big ones like a 5500. Everyone was drooling over it. It's amazing what a 4% grade will do to one of these beauties. Needless to say, I didn't take my 2500 out of OD and never went below 70MPH. The nice brand new Duramax could not have been doing more than about 35-40, but at least it looked nice.
