boost launch
on my old 12 valve I would watch the boost gauge and build it to about 10psi before launching.
but if you are going to do that you better have a heavily built tranny. and it works better with a four wheel drive. with just a 2wd all you will do is do one hella burnout.

you're right, you do need to get your rpm's up but, not that high. 10lbs of boost is more than enough to launch your truck to a 1.8/9 or better 60ft. but that would only take 1600 to 1800rpm's to do.
as Floyd mentioned though.... you better have a billet tranny if you plan on boosted launches. Especially the intermittent shaft or you'll have a mess on your hands.

you dont have listed if you ahve a stick or not. . .however, for the manuals, you need to push the RPM's to 2000 and 10lbs. this way you have enough RPM's to keep eveything going when you dump the clutch. too many RPM's and you'll burn out, too few and you'll lug off the line.
I have yet to try to get a good launch.. but I definately notice turbo lag off the line. With a 2wd SRW would there really be a need for a 'built tranny' to do a boost launch? These things tow 13,500 lbs.. I would think the tires would give in waaaaaaaaaay before the tranny would break a sweat. btw..I saw on the half ton thread where a drive shafthad reached 'critical speed' and self destructed at about 85mph .. the picture showed what looked like tinfoil wrapped around a cardboard tube.. please tell me our CTD equiped trucks have a stronger drive line than that!
yea. . .we have a 90lb drive shaft. . .it's a HEAVY mug. but the 48RE, it will give way if you do to may boosted launches. usualy the first thing to go would be the torque converter. you upgrade that and the valve body, the next piece to grenade itself will be the input shaft. . .output if your lucky.
getting a built tranny is quite necessary on these trucks. especialy when you are making max torque at only 1600 rpm.
