Default Air Filters..thoughts

I have been running the AFE pro-guard 7 and during the winter I run the "pre-filter" to keep snow fromicing up the filter (found running the prefilter during summer conditions it plugs far tooeasily). I bought 2 filters and always carry a "cleaned" one with me. Now I've seen on this and other forums ppl are concerned or have had warranty voided due to "dirty air" causing engine failures (hog wash IMHO) Each time I renew my filter I take the time to inspect the intake tube, and from my observations the tube the inside is as clean as the day I installed the system!!!I now have over 90k milesusing the AFE and no problems, I do oilanalysis every other oil change and they show normal conditions! Now as some know I run 80% or more of my milage on gravel/mud/dirt/clay goat trails...I compare these roads to running the Baja 1000 every day!!(when I get home I'll post some pics... its been very dry now and dust trails from passing trucks linger road side for miles, when meeting on coming vehicles I left off the go pedal to minimize air intake) I guess if one is running after market air filters, one shold be annal about making sure they are CLEAN!!! and more importantly make sure you have the filter and intake tube fitting properly!!!( I wash or should I say I soak my filters in a pailof water and simple green, the pail is large enough to completly submerge it, after letting it soak for 24hrs I let it dry naturally ..no blow dryers or heat of any kind, after drying she gets oiled and I'm good to go )

I believe the only reason one should run these types of filters are if you are running above normal HP, as forstock trucks there isno real advantage to non oem filters, really! I could also add exhaust systems going bigger is gonna hurt rather then help unless again your pourin out the horse power.

Now I see some are thinking of changing to other filters (ie. BHAF to amsoil nano?) why?

Not only am I waiting to get home to post my pics but I have a date with a dyno... I've done a few other mods other then what I have in my sig. I hoping to be 400+ so I'm staying with my AFE!!

If anyone has other thoughts, ideas,or concerns lets hear em... I'd be interested to know if anyone else shares my thoughts.

Default RE: Air Filters..thoughts

I forgot to add... I installed the AFE and exhaust on my truck becuase I fell for the "increased mileage and hp/torque" ads. I found after installing my low end dropped ( nothing more embarassing then making all kinds of noise only to crawl through an intersection until to turbo, rpm and tranny get up to speed) and that the supposed increase in mileage.. laughable. But then you spend a few more coins add a chip/programmer, then upgrade the tranny (auto and stick) then larger injectors... larger turbo or twins. But wait!!! What about gauges!!? So on and so on....

Well I've been bittin.... and I guess I'm one of the few lucky ones ... I own my own business and my truck is part of it... so out comes the cheque book.... few coins for this and a few more for that...

They say if your gonna add hp/tq don't bother with a valve body and TC get a built tranny.. ok
Now if your gonna be pullin big loads a simple turbo upgrade ain't gonna cut it... ya gotta get one of them "TWINS" (Tim Allen grunt grunt!!) Now ya need a good fuel system and big a$$ injectors naw... them 70hp injectors waste of good money... get them thar 100hp ones you'll never be sorry!!
But wait!! your pushing 800+hp a gazillion lbs of torque those pistions are gonna melt and the head bolts are gonna stretch... got what ya need right here ca-ching$$

All I really wanted was to get some better fuel mileage....(slaps head duuuh!! its a 1 ton 4x4 diesel truck what the hell do ya expect!!)
