Question for computer experts ??
The list of reasons a computer 'runs slow' is so long and painful it is one of my favorite help desk calls to take.
Honestly it could be anything from hard ware to software. The hard part is trying to clear it up w/o hands on.
If you want to shoot me an emai I'll send you some steps on stuff to send me and I'll take a peek around.

Did the Housecall and Ewido scans come up clean?
A few months ago my younger brother had problems with a Dell Latitude 620 where the processor time would randomly jump up to 50% or more for short periods. It was still under warranty so a Dell rep came and replaced multiple hardware parts on the 1st visit. When the first visit did not improve things the Dell rep pronounced it a 'Driver incompatibilty' problem and recommend a hard drive wipe and complete re-install...which did solve the problem.

if you realy want to fix your computer, find a 1.44mb floppy disk loaded with DOS. boot the computer from that disk. once you get the command prompt type in. . . .format c: /u
that will solve all your problems
that will solve all your problems
If you have not played around with it yet
Bart's PE build of the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows
is one of those amazing volunteer projects:
There are many, many useful programs on this bootable CD
that can help with computer recovery, repair or diagnosis
This allows booting up a computer even if the hard drive has major problems
and the operating system is a version of WindowsXP called the 'pre-environment' so that reading NTFS files is not a problem.

Man you guy's are making me nervous.
Frogger, I emailed you yesterday
Billy, what the heck is that program that you want me to load up, some sort of fixer-upper?
Hank, the only "fixer - upper / construction" workerI want to deal with is this one ...

Hey Mayfair, If you can rule outthe possiblity of a virus, what about spyware? My panda virus protection handles the virus just fine, but doesn't do squat for the spyware floatin around out there. I know it screwed with my desk top puter at times. Good luck with finding a solution, oh........and sorry to see ya lost your little side kick awhile back.

The really sobering thing about computer security today
is that a lot of the 'black hat' guys writing malware
are former comp sci and engineering graduate students in US Universities
who went home to China, Russia, Pakistan, etc
to find that there were no decent paying jobs
except criminal ones.
Many of these same guys used to work in USA university computer help desks.
